Most states have laws against open alcohol in a car.  But a lot of those laws were just being talked about in the 1980s.  Here’s a news report from back then of people calling the policies “undemocratic.”  (This only refers to open alcohol in cars.  It’s NOT about DUIs.  Those laws have been around much longer.)
