There’s a New Karate Kid Movie in the Works, but It’s Not Connected to “Cobra Kai”
There’s a new “Karate Kid” movie coming in 2024 . . . but the details at this point are a complete mystery.
When they announced the movie, Sony would only say that it would mark the, quote, “return of the original ‘Karate Kid’ franchise.” But here’s the thing:
It has nothing to do with the Netflix show “Cobra Kai”. . . which is a literal continuation of the original “Karate Kid” franchise.
One of the creators of “Cobra Kai” said, quote,
“The guys and I would love to make Karate Kid and Cobra Kai movies and hope to someday. But this one isn’t from us or focused on the Cobra Kai cast. Don’t know much about it, but wish it well.”
So it’s a return to the ORIGINAL franchise, which makes you think it won’t have anything to do with the 2010 remake starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.
But it’s also not connected to “Cobra Kai” or any of its characters? How can that be, since “Cobra Kai”has utilized just about EVERY character from the “Karate Kid” movie. So far, “Cobra Kai” has been a follow-up to the FIRST THREE “Karate Kid” movies.
But in 1994 Mr. Miyagi left Daniel-san behind and took on a NEW student named Julie Pierce, played by Hilary. And she seems to be the only character of note in the original franchise that HASN’T been used by “Cobra Kai”. Maybe this is where Hilary Swank finally comes in?
People have been waiting for her to show up , but what if Sony decided to pull a swerve on everyone and steal her away for a Julie Pierce MOVIE
Maybe it’s a PREQUEL about Mr. Miyagi growing up in Okinawa? I mean, that backstory was kind of covered in “Karate Kid Part 2”, but it wouldn’t be unlike Hollywood to beat a dead horse like that.
