A new ranking from U.S. News & World Report names Washington as the best state in America.

The list ranks states by multiple criteria including economy,  health care, education, and infrastructure. Washington took the #1 spot, followed by New Hampshire, Minnesota, Utah, and Vermont.

Meanwhile, the southern states of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi found themselves at the bottom of the list.  Last year’s top state, Iowa, dropped all the way down to 14th in the rankings.

So where does SC rank? #42… which is not good folks. The good news is we rank #16 in economy and 20th in fiscal stability, so it sounds like our money situation is decent. BUT, the bad news: we’re ranked 43rd in education, 46th in crime, putting us in the top 5 states with the most crime, 36th in infrastructure and health care, 34th in natural environment, and 41st in opportunity.

Also, on a side note: out of the top 10 states with the best economy, 6 have made marijuana fully legal, and 2 have made it medically legal. So only 2 of the top 10 states that have the best economy have not legalized weed, but they border states that have, so it’s only a matter of time. Just food for thought…
