New in Theaters: “Missing” and “The Son”

1.  “The Son“  (PG-13)   (Limited)

Hugh Jackman tries to be the father to his teenage son that his own dad (Anthony Hopkins) couldn’t be.  But in trying to correct the mistakes of his past, he loses sight of the present.

Laura Dern plays his ex-wife and Vanessa Kirby from “The Crown” plays his new wife.

 

2.  “Missing“  (PG-13)  Trailer

Storm Reid from “A Wrinkle in Time” stars in this mystery thriller as a teenager searching for her mom, who went missing while on vacation in Colombia with a new boyfriend.  But as she digs deeper and uses technology to try to track her mom down, she realizes she never really knew mom at all.  The missing mom is played by Nia Long, from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”.

 

3.  “When You Finish Saving the World“  (R)  Trailer  (Limited)

Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard from “Stranger Things” play a mother and son with a strained relationship who both try to find replacements for each other.  The mom tries to parent a teen at the shelter she runs for victims of domestic abuse.

This is the directorial debut of Jesse Eisenberg.

 

4.  “Alone at Night“  (R)  Trailer  (Limited)

Ashley Benson plays a woman who goes to a friend’s remote cabin, while going through a breakup.  She continues to model for an adults-only live-streaming website, but then the power goes out and she’s terrorized by a masked killer.

It also stars Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton, G-Eazy, and Luis Guzman.
