Please join us on Saturday morning, November 10th, to celebrate our Nation’s Veterans, the 100th anniversary of the holiday (former known as Armistice Day), and honor the World War memorial here in Columbia!

The 1st Annual Veterans Day 5K is a celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day (now known as Veterans Day) and honors the World War Memorial here in Columbia. The 5K, beginning at Longstreet Theatre, passing over Assembly and around the flags that fly in front of the Strom Thurmond Wellness Center, and finishing at the World War Memorial, is a fundraiser benefitting the Friends of Fisher House, Columbia, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose goal is to bring a Fisher House to Columbia to provide lodging for the families of veterans who require overnight or extended stay care at the Dorn VA Hospital. The 5K will take place on November 10th, 2018, starting at 8:00 a.m.

The links for volunteers and runners are below. Sponsorships are still VERY MUCH needed, so please pass on to any potential sponsors.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Friends of Fisher House Columbia, SC. Fisher House Foundation builds comfort homes where military & veterans families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital. These homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the world.

Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room and an inviting living room.

Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $407 million in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation.
