The Proper Way To Fly The Flag On Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a day to celebrate those who gave their lives in service of our country.  As such, it carries a special set of rules for now to properly display the American flag.

According to the United States Code, on Memorial Day the flag should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon, then “raised briskly” to full-staff until sunset.

It’s one of six days on the calendar when the flag is to be flown at half-staff – along with Peace Officers Memorial Day (May 15), Korean War Veterans Armistice Day (July 27), Patriot Day (Sept. 11), and Pearl Harbor Day (Dec. 7).
