The First Rock n Roll Song Created Turns 70

There’s probably no way to definitely settle the debate over what the first rock n roll was, but a serious contender for that title just reached a milestone this month.

The song is called “Rocket 88” by Ike Turner and The Kings of Rhythm, with a guy named Jackie Brenston on vocals. The song came out in the first week of March, 1951, which means it just turned 70 YEARS OLD.

I can tell you that both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and “The New Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock and Roll” think it is. And maybe that counts for SOMETHING.
