If you find a photo of Black Sabbath, you’ll likely notice the band wearing large crosses around their necks. Turns out, there was a very practical reason for the fashion choice.
In a recent interview with Louder Sound, Geezer Butler called the whole situation “hokey” but explained the quartet wasn’t taking any chances after being “cursed” by some black magic organization for pulling out of a gig.
To ward it off, “The head of the white witches called our management and said he knew we had a curse put on us, and we should wear crosses and he’d do a ritual thing,” reveals the bassist.
The crosses were specially created for Sabbath by frontman Ozzy Osbourne’s father, who made them at the factory where he worked.
