Despite its name, visitors to Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas surely can’t expect to find pricey jewels scattered about, right? Not necessarily. A Texas woman visiting the park has come home with a 3.72-carat yellow diamond.
Miranda Hollingshead, who was on vacation from Bogata, said the rare diamond practically fell right into her lap. “I was sitting in the shade, watching a YouTube video on how to find diamonds,” the 27-year-old says. “I looked over at my kid for a second, and when I looked down, I saw it mixed in with other rocks.” While the size of the gem is impressive, it pales in comparison to the record holder: a 40-carat diamond, found at the Crater of Diamonds in 1924.
Park officials say recent rainfall likely played a part in unearthing the diamond found by Hollingshead.
If anyone asks, I’m in Arkansas.
