Thanks to rising prices as a result of inflation, Americans are having to rethink their travel plans rather than just stay at home. Expedia Group has just released Unpack ‘24, their report on the top trends in travel for the year ahead and it reveals that it may just be the year of the “dupe.” These “dupes” are affordable alternatives with the same look and feel as popular destinations, without the big price tag.
These are some of the best travel dupes for 2024, according to the travel experts:
- Instead of: Geneva, Switzerland – Visit: Québec City, Canada
- Instead of: Seoul, South Korea – Visit: Taipei, Taiwan
- Instead of: Nashville, Tennessee – Visit: Memphis, Tennessee
- Instead of: Santorini, Greece – Visit: Paros, Greece
- Instead of: Zermatt, Switzerland – Visit: Sapporo, Japan
- Instead of: London, England – Visit: Liverpool, England
- Instead of: Lisbon, Portugal – Visit: Palermo, Italy
- Instead of: Bangkok, Thailand – Visit: Pattaya, Thailand
- Instead of: Sydney, Australia – Visit: Perth, Australia
- Instead of: St. Martin – Visit: Curaçao
Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo also teamed up for the first-ever Set-jetting Forecast, which predicts destinations that will be popular in 2024 because of their link to TV shows and movies:
- Thailand inspired by “The White Lotus” season 3
- Romania inspired by “Wednesday” season 2
- Malta inspired by the new “Gladiator 2” film
- Scottish Highlands inspired by the remaining seasons of “Outlander”
- London, Bath and Windsor, U.K. inspired by the new season of “Bridgerton” and “The Crown” season 6
- Korea inspired by “Squid Game” season 2
