Every one in the town of Whittier, Alaska lives in the same building. The video explains everything, in detail, but if you weren’t able to watch the full 3 minutes, I’ll explain!
There’s currently 318 residents in the town who live in a former military building. Also in the building are a post office, a church, and a store. There’s a tunnel in the basement that runs to the school across the street. The building that residents live in was built around WW2 and used as military housing. After the war, some people left, some stayed but then an earthquake hit in the 60s that sent most people packing and the building was abandoned.
The town does have stores and hotels and restaurants, and plenty of gift shops! Plus, it’s a port and marina so it welcomes cruise ships and boat travelers alike.
