Back in January, the St. Louis Blues were in last place — and the team’s chances of turning things around seemed unlikely. That’s when Scott Berry, who was in Las Vegas on a work trip, placed a $400 bet on the NHL team winning the Stanley Cup.

Fast-forward to today: The Blues have not only defied the odds, but also won the first game of the Stanley Cup Final. And Berry’s bet, which was placed against 250-to-1 odds, might actually pay off — to the tune of $100,000. Since the team made the playoffs, Berry says several people and companies have offered between $12,000 and $40,000 to buy the bet from him. But he’s not selling.

“I bet with my heart,” the Missouri resident says. “I believe in this team so much. I could use the money, trust me. But I’ve got faith in these guys. It’s mathematically good advice to secure a profit, but let’s go Blues!”
